What are the precautions for installing lightning rods:

(1) When selecting the installation location of an independent lightning rod, the distance between the lightning rod and its grounding device and the distribution device should be maintained as follows: on the ground, the spatial distance from the independent lightning rod to the conductive part of the distribution device and to the grounding part of the electrical equipment and structure of the substation should not be less than 5 meters; underground, the distance between the grounding device of the independent lightning rod itself and the substation grounding grid should generally not be less than 3 meters; the distance between the independent lightning rod and its grounding device and the entrance and exit of roads or buildings should be greater than 3 meters.

(2) The grounding resistance of an independent lightning rod should generally not exceed 10 fl.

(3) In order to prevent lightning waves from entering the room through wires and endangering personal safety when lightning strikes the lightning rod, it is not allowed to install low-voltage lines or communication lines on the lightning rod structure. The power supply line for lighting fixtures on structures equipped with lightning rods must use cables with metal protective layers buried directly underground or wires that pass through metal pipes. The cable protection layer or metal tube must be grounded, and the buried length should be at least 10 meters before it can be connected to the grounding grid of the distribution equipment, or to the power line or low-voltage distribution equipment.

(4) A metal cylinder (such as a chimney) equipped with a lightning rod can be used as the down conductor of the lightning rod when its thickness is greater than 4 mm. The bottom of the cylinder should have two symmetrical connections to the grounding body.
