Surface Contamination Test Kit for Ultrasonic Instruments 138/2
To ensure the quality of the coating and achieve the best service life, the degree of surface contamination must be measured before implementing the coating.
If coating is applied to surfaces that have been contaminated but not pre treated, it can lead to premature coating detachment, increasing rework and maintenance costs.
The Jig 138/2 Surface Contamination Test Kit provides users with a method for testing visible surface contaminants, including:
- pH
- Chloride ion
- iron
- Various salts
Chloride test strip
The chloride ions on the surface of steel increase the possibility of corrosion, and even with protective coatings, corrosion may still occur. The mixture of chloride ions and water on the surface of steel under coating will form a corrosive battery. The corrosion process can cause premature detachment of protective coatings and may lead to blistering of the coating during immersion applications.
The chlorine test strip indicates the concentration of chloride ions in the sample solution. If the sampling area and water volume are known, the concentration can be measured at parts per million or micrograms per milliliter.
Iron testing strip
Ferrous ions are an indicator of steel corrosion. In the presence of water, a corrosion cell is formed between steel and oxygen, leading to iron oxidation and subsequent corrosion of steel. The ferrous ion test strip can also indicate the concentration of ferrous ions in the sample solution, using the same method as chloride ions.
PH test strip
These test strips are used to determine whether the solution or surface is acidic or alkaline. Some gases dissolve in water and form acids, such as chlorine dissolving in water to produce hydrochloric acid, carbon dioxide dissolving in water to produce carbonic acid, and sulfur dioxide dissolving in water to produce sulfuric acid, all of which can corrode steel.
These pollutants were detected in the solution obtained from rinsing the surface or on a wet pH test strip attached to a dry surface. PH cannot measure concentration, but it can indicate the acidity or alkalinity of the surface. Alkaline surfaces are usually associated with the concrete surface to be coated or steel bars buried in the concrete.
