The QFS-40 lamp was developed to comply with the SAE J2020 standard, which has hardware specific requirements for using this lamp at the time of writing. Hardware specific requirements have been removed from SAE J2020 and most standards based on SAE J2020.
The UVB-313EL lamp was later developed and operated using the QUV SOLAR EYE irradiance control system, while the QFS-40 QUV/basic was used. Due to aging of the lamp tube, maintenance, and environmental conditions, it is difficult to ensure consistent and repeatable irradiance. UVB-313EL lamps are much cheaper than QFS40 lamps due to the mass production of UVB-313EL.
If yourQUV UV aging boxWithout irradiance control (QUV/basic or old models), in order to meet old standards or compare with historical data, you should continue to use QFS-40 lamps to maintain a comparable irradiance level. Using UVB 313EL lamps in QUV testing machines without irradiance control will result in significantly higher irradiance than QFS-40 lamps in the same testing machine.
If yourQUV UV aging boxWith SOLAR EYE irradiance control, you should use UVB-313EL lamps. For SAE J2020 and standards based on it, please set the irradiance at 310nm to 0.48 W/m2, even if these standards have not been updated to use UVB-313 lamps. When the irradiance is controllable, this is the most cost-effective and performance option.
