SVP Lagrangian Drifting Buoy

SVP Introduction:

The SVP drifting buoy is placed at a fixed depth (15m) below the sea surface for ocean current tracking. The SVP structure includes a floating ball on the water surface, connecting cables, and a water sail. The water sail is located at a fixed depth underwater, with a center distance of 15m from the sea surface. The water sail is connected to the floating ball on the water surface through a connecting cable.

The floating ball on the water surface provides the necessary buoyancy to keep the sail in a fixed position underwater, while containing all the electronic components of the entire drifting buoy inside. These electronic components include: remote communication system, battery pack, GPS receiver. GPS calculates the position of drifting buoys and the time to obtain these positions. The remote communication system sends the time and position information back to the Pacific Gyre data server, and users can use this data to calculate the speed and direction of ocean currents.
