The aluminum casing of the Heidenhain enclosed linear grating ruler effectively protects the grating ruler, reading head, and guide rail from dust, chips, and cutting fluid. The elastic sealing strip that automatically presses downwards keeps the shell sealed.
The reading head moves along the small friction rail of the grating ruler. The reading head is connected to the external mounting bracket through a coupling, which can compensate for the inevitable alignment error between the grating ruler and the machine tool guide rail.
