Introduction:

Place benthic organisms attached to hanging boards at the bottom of lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and oceans. After a period of time, remove them from the water surface and classify, count, and calculate the biomass of benthic animals attached to them. Tools such as scrapers and brushes can be used to separate attached organisms from the hanging board.

Benthic organisms inhabit the muddy bottom and have a close relationship with the bottom of the water. Periodic research on the distribution, species, and quantity of benthic organisms can indicate changes in physical and chemical environmental conditions such as water temperature, nutrient conditions, and sedimentation.
