Running on Microsoft's handheld computer, the 916 provides an interface to the IQ system, allowing users to monitor and adjust parameters in IQ and IQL controllers. 916 can connect to the IQ network through a standard network connection (local management program port or CNC2), through a modem, or through Ethernet. GSM phones can be used instead of modems.
